Job Summary/Basic Function

Maryville University, one of the top five fastest growing private higher education institutions, located in the western suburbs of St. Louis, is seeking an innovative and proactive Library Resource Strategist to assist with current and future functions of the Library. This position reports to the Director of the Library within the Division of Student Success. The successful candidate must be committed to fostering a culturally diverse atmosphere for faculty, staff, and students.

• Research and evaluate current library practices in order to delineate future needs in line with campus strategic initiatives
• Seek out and implement new workflows to enhance student service on campus and online
• Communicate regularly with faculty, staff, and students via various means to best understand ongoing resource needs
• Provide proactive collection development strategy for new and existing academic programs
• Evaluate potential applications of Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, and Augmented Reality across academic resource environments
• Assist in disseminating information about the library collection and services in multiple formats to diverse audiences
• Regularly catalog digital and print material in a blended RDA/AACR2 environment using the MARC standard, while investigating and implementing new standards such as BIBFRAME
• Provide consortia-wide quality control of cataloging, including the correction of subject headings and authority information
• Represent the University Library in local cataloging initiatives
• Process the annual renewal of journal subscriptions, while managing journal information in Sierra, EBSCO holdings, and LibGuides
• Communicate with vendors concerning digital and print material and implement trials
• Participate in library-wide initiatives such as collection management, assessment, and strategic planning
• Through the development of collaborative and cross-functional relationships, help to express the University’s core values and their relation to the Library
• Serve as library liaison for assigned departments and academic majors across the University
• Provide reference, user education, and research services as needed
• Supervise the work of student employees as needed

Minimum Qualifications

MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited school, or appropriate equivalent
• Knowledge of metadata standards and applications, including next generation cataloging standards
• Two years of cataloging experience
• Superb written and oral communication skills
• Exemplary customer service and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively present information
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately
• Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment
• Ability to be adaptable, intuitive, and flexible
• Strong sense of initiative; self-starter
• Proven ability to work and communicate effectively in a diverse environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of integrated library systems, LibGuides, and OPAC software
• Academic library experience
• Experience working with diverse content and populations
• Organizational policy, procedure, and strategy development
• Supervisory experience

Physical Demands
Work Hours

40 hours per week. The University Library is open from 7 am – midnight, Monday through Friday and 9 am – 7 pm, Saturday and Sunday. Variable hours as required with the ability to be flexible.
