Job Summary/Basic Function

Maryville University is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Teacher Education/Director of Graduate Literacy Programs to begin August 2018. This is a tenure track position. Rank will be commensurate with experience. The successful candidate should be able to teach in a variety of areas within the teacher preparation program. Teaching areas include, but are not limited to, undergraduate literacy education (K-12). The successful candidate should also be able to direct and teach courses in Maryville’s graduate literacy (Master’s) program. The position also involves participation in partner school activities. The successful candidate must be committed to fostering a culturally diverse atmosphere for faculty, staff and students.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in education with advanced coursework leading to a doctoral degree in progress
• Teacher certification
• Special Reading K-12 Certification
• Classroom experience teaching literacy and working with struggling readers at the P-12 level
• Experience working with diverse populations
• Dedication to excellence in teaching, scholarship, teamwork and service to the University and simultaneous renewal of schools and teacher education is essential

Preferred Qualifications

• Earned Doctorate
• Early Childhood Certification
• Experience as a literacy or instructional coach
• Experience with and knowledge of English language learners and/or action research preferred

Physical Demands

Travel to and from PK – 12 schools in the greater St. Louis area is required to work with teacher candidates in the field.
